Recycling Christmas Trees for Dune Protection

Every January, Greenwich Parks & Rec and Friends of Greenwich Point partner to use the Christmas trees that are collected at the Point for protecting beach dunes. Volunteers meet at the first parking lot where the Christmas trees are collected. Trees are moved on to a truck that transports them to the beach and dunes. The pine trees are then placed by volunteers towards the front of the dunes and tied to the snow fencing. This important project recycles more than 150 Christmas trees while giving the dunes extra protection from winter storm surges. Volunteer hours are available for students for this project.

The most recent Dune Protection with Christmas Tree Recycling project was on January 25, 2025. Check out some photos of the project and volunteers!
