As you enter the park and
pass the gate house on your
left you will see snow fencing
protecting a recently
restored and planted dune.
Super Storm Sandy washed
away the dune and its entire
vegetation system. In order
to prevent further dune erosion
the Friends of Greenwich Point,
the community and the Town
of Greenwich worked together
to reconstruct the dune and
replant it.
Before the Old Fashioned Dune Grass Planting could begin the dune needed to be reconstructed. The Department of Parks and Recreation and the Department of Public Works under the leadership of Denise Savageau, worked with All Habitat Services, LLC to restore the dune, stabilizing and reshaping it with geo textile tubes. Funding for the dune reconstruction was provided by the Town of Greenwich and Friends of Greenwich Point.
On April 7th over 75 volunteers; Friends of Greenwich Point members, Girl Scouts, and community members gathered at the Innis Arden Cottage in the early morning to plant over 3,000 American beach grass plugs.
