2018 - 2019 Accomplishments
Education Programs:
- St Patrick’s Day Concert with the Murthas
- Wildlife in Winter
- Scales and Slime: reptiles and amphibians
- Baby Farm Animals
Recreational and Other Projects:
- Partnered with Skip the Straw Greenwich and cleaned the beach
- Together with GEMS and the Department of Parks and Recreation, we installed two automated external defibrillators (AEDs) at Greenwich Point
- First Greenwich Point Comedy Night
- Summer concert series in Seaside Garden
- Co-sponsored with Wild Wings the First Sunday Bird walks at Greenwich Point
- Introduced the 6th annual Holiday ornament
- Greenwich Point Art Show
- Safe Roads Sundays
- Annual Greenwich Park Employee luncheon
Habitat Maintenance and Restoration:
- Planted 10 additional holly trees in the Holly Grove, thanks to a gift from Will
Nixon, in honor of his father Justin Wroe Nixon
- Planted an entryway garden by the west entrance pillar just past the gate house - Thanks to a grant from the Connecticut Ornithological Association we were able
to replant the dunes with 125 Red Cedar and Pitch Pine saplings to attract
wildlife and to protect the area from coastal storms
- Purchased new bird feeders and kept them full through the winter
- We coordinated with the Tree and Parks Department and the Tree Conservancy
to plant 51 trees in the picnic area and 26 more in the cleared meadow area.
- Another successful Holly Grove clean up in the spring.
