Advocates for Greenwich Point since 1997   FALL & WINTER BIRDS AT THE POINT Birds to watch for and observe during the fall and winter months: Northern Cardinal White-throated Sparrow Red-tailed Hawk Black-capped Chickadee Savannah Sparrow Cooper’s Hawk Junco Swamp Sparrow Goshawk Tufted Titmouse Winter Wren Great-horned Owl House Finch Downy Woodpecker Long-eared Owl Goldfinch Cedar Waxwing Saw-whet Owl Purple Finch White-breasted Nuthatch And a great variety of water and shorebirds: Brant Common Loon Great-blue Heron Bufflehead Red-throated Loon Black-bellied Plover Snow Goose Red-breasted Merganser Ruddy Turnstone Black Duck Northern Gannet Dunlin Goldeneye Horned Grebe Sanderling Long-tailed Duck Red-necked Grebe Hooded Merganser Great Cormorant Also watch for Harbor and (the rarer) Gray Seals which occasionally can be seen resting on offshore rocks as they winter in the waters of Long Island Sound.
