First Sunday Bird Walks May 4 and June 1 — 9am - 11am Meet near southern concession stand. Enjoy the outdoors and learn about the birds of the Point. All levels of experience welcome. Bring binoculars. Free. Co-sponsored by Wild Wings, Audubon Greenwich and Bruce Museum. Horseshoe Crab Walks Three Sundays May 4, May 18, June 1 — 6pm Did you know that the horseshoe crab has TEN eyes, predates flying insects, dinosaurs and man, is essential to migratory birds on the East Coast and that Greenwich is an important spawning ground for their reproduction? Join Rosemary Louden at the Chimes Building to walk along the beach and learn more about these fascinating creatures. These Friends of Greenwich Point sponsored events will take place rain or shine, so dress accordingly! Everyone is welcome. Experience the Sound Discover more about our treasured natural resource, the Long Island Sound, and the many activities and organizations involved in helping maintain and enjoy this special place at the second annual “Experience the Sound” day. The Greenwich Shellfish Commission is sponsoring the event, which will be held near the dock of the Old Greenwich Yacht Club. Details are still in the planning stages, but “Bill the Pirate” is expected to entertain and tours aboard the Atlantic Clam Farms Boat and Soundwaters Schooner may be available. Other organizations invited to attend include: Greenwich Crew, Greenwich Community Sailing, Fjord Fisheries/Hemlock Oyster farms, lobstermen, Town of Greenwich Conservation Commission, Audubon Society, Greenwich Point Conservancy, Friends of Greenwich Point, BruceMuseum’s Seaside Museum, Wild Wings Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation, Greenwich Land Trust, Old Greenwich Yacht Club, GRAB, Perrot Library, and archeologist Ernie Weigand. Be sure to stop by! Sunday Music in the Seaside Garden June 22, July 20, August 3 — 5:30 - 7pm Bring chairs or a blanket and listen to some great music by the Sound. These sunset outdoor concerts have become a tradition sponsored by the Friends of Greenwich Point. Although all the concerts are free, you need to have a Town of Greenwich issued pass and parking permit to enter the Park. June 22 - Too Blue Betsy Rome, guitar and vocals: Joan Harrison, banjo and vocals; Jack Murphy, bass; Michael Sassano, mandolin Betsy and Joan sing duets featuring tight harmonies with songs from 50's country, blues, bluegrass and swing. Jack and Michael provide plenty of their award-winning instrumental entertainment.
July 20 - The Bearcats This often-heard and well-loved Dixieland band will make your toes tap with their upbeat and traditional jazz numbers. They have entertained audiences across the country in places such as Sacramento, Chicago, Florida, Virginia and all of the Northeast. We are happy to have them back again. August 3 - Fairfield Counts These seasoned pros with their big band sound will have you up on your feet and dancing. They put their own special spin an all your favorite tunes from Nelson Riddle to Gershwin. Don't miss Fairfield county's favorite dance band.
